THE TREASURE CHEST
Kannawidan Festival is a festivity that keep going from the last week of January up to the First week of February. It is included in the program is the celebration of the foundation day of the province, Ilocos Sur. To give you an idea about their treasure, the citizens conceived festival that show up the cultural traditions that represents the ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage and they named it as “Kannawidan Festival.
On the opening day, there is a mass held at the St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral and it is followed by a procession of the Patron Saints. This is their way of giving thanks to the Almighty. This event indicates the innate religiosity of the inhabitants. The children should acknowledge the purpose of this event because nowadays, many traditions, songs, dances, and other Ilocano culture are not recognized by the younger generations of the province because of the technology.
The festival is also presents the province’s trade and agricultural products. This festival is gather to preserve, cherish and promote the province indigenous culture, folk music and arts.
